================================================== A Thursday night is coming fast I'm alone in my mind Thinking of them olden days From another time F#m Dreaming of the old life D A The life I had to leave behind E And I'm dreaming 'bout that D A Gas station wine Nothing else to do tonight Let's go to the riverside Fresh scent of the fallen rain The darkness of the night My lungs are filled with cold air But I feel warm inside 'Cause I've been drinking on that Gas station wine E A C#m D And all this time I'm sitting in my room E A C# F#m Wondering if everyone feels this way too D E A And I wonder if there'll ever be a time Am In our lives D When we can feel alive again E And happy all the time again Now its been 'bout a couple years But it seems like yesterday You said you were'nt a drinker But I showed you the way I brought you a bottle You didn't know it at the time But you was drinking on that Gas station wine And I still see you stading in my room Looking at me the way that you used to And I wonder if there'll ever be a time In our lives When we can feel alive again And happy all the time again So throw your glasses in the air Raise them spirits high Here is to the future Close nostalgic eyes Tomorrow's going to turn out Everything will work out fine And we'll be drinking on that Gas station wine Yes we'll be drinking on that Gas station wine ================================================== MASTERPIECE ================================================== G C I am the canvas on which the painter paints Everything I am is just anything he dictates Seen in me is a vision of his minds eye But what is to become of me when the painter dies Em G C Then every single day Em G C I'd slowly fade to gray Slowly fade away An unfinished work of art well they'd put me on the shelf I am merely remnants of my former self Old and ugly and tattered worn and torn My colors just don't shine like they did before Until some special day An artist comes my way Takes me from this place She holds me in her arms and she smiles I haven't been looked upon in quite a while A little bit of creativity and in no time Patches up my holes and draws new lines I finally am complete The artist's masterpiece I'm a masterpiece ================================================== MERCY ================================================== Am G6 Am C Am There's mercy on this soul of mine ================================================== PRINCESS ================================================== F6 This is the story of a princess of old Who lived in a castle it was a sight to behold G There were towers and streamers and music everywhere But nothing was real it was hollow at best The castle itself was just like all of the rest It was cold inside and very dark all the time She wanted a cottage near then end of town A cottage quite small with nothing around Although it was humble at least it was something real B7 C But she was a beautiful woman, she was adored by all She sat on the pedastool and wanted to fall Am Fm C But we kept her there we needed her there to shine Am F6 Take me away take me away she cried So easy to see so easy to see in her eyes We knew what she wanted but we blocked it from our minds Am Fm C It was too hard to say goodbye She looks out the window and flashes a smile It eases our minds she'll be there for a while She plays the part well and thats all we really need We just need a symbol something happy and fair When we look to the towers, we see that its there All is fine the kingdom is safe and sound We know that its wrong and in the back of our minds We know that our symbol is dying inside But she has the kingdom what else could she need It is true that she is dying she cannot weather the task She flashes a smile but it's really a mask She plays the part well she's beautiful to the end Take me away, take me away she cried So easy to see, so easy to see in her eyes We knew what she wanted but we blocked it from our minds It was too hard to say goodbye Take me away, take me away she cried So easy to see, so easy to see in her eyes We knew what she wanted but we blocked it from our minds It was too hard to say goodbye ================================================== SUPERGLUE ================================================== C D G Em I need you superglue C D G Fixing all these little things Em C D So I don't have to buy them new G Em C And you fill the little cracks I find D In my life G My superglue I want you superglue Slathered all over my life So I don't fall apart in two And I think I'll keep it all together With you My superglue What am I going to do When you're all but spent up with me And there's nothing but an empty tube What the hell am I supposed to do Without you My superglue ================================================== DAYDREAM ================================================== Fmaj7 Sun shines through the mini blinds Wipes the sleep right from my eyes C And I see Fmaj7 That everyday is all the same Backpain's all I have to gain C From sleep F#maj7 Today I pray you'll send my way Something of not more the same C# A daydream Gmaj7 Tell me this and nothing more Where is it I'm headed for D Lately E There's a pothole in the road Will I hit it and be slowed And lose the race It's like parking cars on wet grass I lay my foot down on the gas But I stay in one place Or could it be I'm on the sea Nothing but the ocean breeze In my face Fill my sails and set me free Let me traverse easily All time and space So send a dream but not the kind That find's my eyes when rendered blind By sleep For what is knowledge lost in space Forgotten dreams are just a waste To me ================================================== NOTES ================================================== Three Quarters There was supposed to be entirely different than House of Tropicals, but it didn't quite turn out that way. It is a little longer, has more instrumentation, wasn't recorded on tape, and isn't a concept album. But upon completion and reflecting upon the work, there are similarities. It has more songs, but is only a minute longer total time. There is more instrumentation, but the uke is front and center, even on songs like Mercy and Daydream. It wasn't recorded on tape, but was still lo-fi; there are no effects on any of the parts and there is little stereo mixing. Most of it was just a matter of adjusting levels on raw recordings from a single mic. It wasn't a concept album, but there are still strong themes that surfaced that surprised even me. This is a collection of older songs, some were 5 years old, just sitting in my notebook. They didn't fit in any collection I had planned, so they became Three Quarters There. It is a collection of reject songs about being a reject, and all the fear, uncertainty, and guilt that goes along with it. I was worried that nothing would feel as good as House of Tropicals felt, but I am pleasantly surprised on how good this CD feels, and it makes me a little less scared to keep pushing the boundaries of my music. Thanks for listening and reading the notes, I truly hope you enjoyed it as much as I have.
